The Student Budget

Overview: Student Budget

To assist students and their families to plan ahead for matriculation at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, the normative budgets listed below are used to determine the degree of applicants' need for financial aid, the difference between family resources and the applicants' status.

Per Federal regulations, a student's financial aid (grants, work-study, loans) and scholarships/resources cannot exceed the Cost of Attendance (Cost of Attendance includes Tuition and Fees, Room and Board, Books and Supplies, Personal Expense, and Transportation.)

The Cost of Attendance Budget is not the upfront direct cost that the student needs to pay to UH. Items such as Room/Board, Personal Expenses, Book and Supplies, and Loan Fees are ESTIMATES of the costs that a student might incur. Room/Board expenses are only paid directly to UH when a student is in the UH dorms with Student Housing. (Students who live at home with Parent will still have an allocation in their Cost of Attendance budget for Room/Board.)

The direct costs payable to UH for ALL students will be the Tuition and Fees. All other items are allocations that are used to determine the need for financial aid.

If you would like to possibly increase your cost of attendance to include additional educational costs such as a computer expense, airfare, childcare or medical expenses, please reach out to to request the appropriate form.
