Sometimes we just like to relax at the beach... |
Kelly has a knack for landscape design. She started this design for a friend. We have been designing and planting one piece of the garden at a time. More pictures to come... |

This glider ride was part of our 1 year anniversary celebration |
Kelly and I shared a seat behind the pilot. Here we are about to take-off! |
We are gliding about 1300 meters above the ocean. Below us is Mokuleia on the northwest shore of O'ahu. Off in the distance you can see the famous North Shore. The sandy beach way off in the distance is Sunset Beach and as the name implies great for watching the sun sink into the ocean. Right after I took this picture the pilot took us on a series of banking turns and dives, he said we hit 140mph! Off to the right, is the Waianae Range, wind from the ocean deflects upwards off these mountains. This is the best spot to catch wind currents that lift the glider like an express elevator! |
We enjoy hiking the many trails on O'ahu. Here we are atop of the Hawaii Loa Ridge at about 700 meters . That is Kaneohe in the background. |
Another shot from the top of Hawaii Loa. Hawaii Loa is part the Koolau Range. This range is actually the rim of an extinct volcano. Getting to the top of Hawaii Loa takes some endurance, but it is well worth the effort. The views from here are spectacular! |
When the clouds role in it can be a surreal experience! |
We've also had a chance to do some hiking on Kauai. This is a picture of "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific" in Kokee State Park. |
You can always find waterfalls on Kauai. This one is in Kokee. Hanalei, on Kauai's north shore also has nice waterfalls. |
Here we just came down from the back of that ridge. We were out with crew from National Tropical Botanical Garden searching for Pritchardia. This area is known as Limahuli and NTBG has a nice garden here. My work with school kids on Kauai takes place one valley over from here. |
Sometimes you come across a treasure like this and can't help but go for a dip! All Hawaiian islands have problems with invasive, exotic species. Regardless, we love Kauai for its natural beauty and laid back lifestyle. We highly recommend visiting Kauai. |
