FASE?? - a toe in the waters of weapons and terror

On the lighter side, here is a unpremeditated search for "fuel air" or "fuel-air" or "fuel/air" explosive via AltaVista which directly or indirectly produced the following URLs. You can spend hours enjoying such searches; almost as much fun as flying unidentified objects ?--)
Naval History
Pave Pat II
[USA] BLU-76 Fuel-Air Explosive subminution bomb.
Anarchist Cookbook
During the recent gulf war, fuel/air bombs were touted as being second only to nuclear weapons in their devastating effects. These are basically similar to the above devices, except that an explosive charge is used to rupture the fuel container and disperse it over a wide area. a second charge is used to detonate the fuel. The reaction is said to produce a massive shockwave and to burn all the oxygen in a large area, causing suffocation.
re the Oklahoma City bombing
This is comparable to the Daisy Cutter fuel-air bomb of Vietnam infamy. The lack of some other effects, however, show that the bomb was a smaller, more advanced cloud bomb, analogous to a fireworks mortar and shell.

The PRC agrees to the 4/75 DPRK proposal for the joint development of the DF-61 single-stage mobile tactical missile, which might carry a cluster munitions or fuel-air explosive warhead. The maximum range of the missile is estimated at 600km with a 1,000 kg payload, with guidance to be supplied by a new PRC-developed gyro.[26]
