Dear International Students,
On June 4, 2025, the White House issued a Presidential Proclamation introducing new restrictions on the entry of certain foreign nationals into the U.S.. The proclamation is scheduled to take effect at 12:01 AM (Eastern Time) on June 9, 2025.
We would like to share the following information to help you understand how this may or may not affect your immigration status and travel plans.
Full Ban Countries (Immigrants and Nonimmigrants)
Nationals of the following 12 countries are subject to a complete suspension of entry to the U.S., including for study or exchange purposes: Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen.
Partial Ban Countries (Certain Visa Types)
Nationals of the following 7 countries may face restrictions on specific nonimmigrant visa types such as F (student), M (vocational), and J (exchange visitor): Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela.
For Continuing Students in the U.S.
- If you are currently in the U.S. in valid F or J status, this proclamation does not affect your ability to remain enrolled or continue your program.
- If you are considering international travel, exercise caution, as reentry may be affected based on the proclamation.
For New Students Fall 2025
- If you are not a national of one of the countries listed above, you may proceed with visa processing and travel arrangements.
- If you are from a country listed in the proclamation but hold a valid visa issued before June 9, 2025 you are likely not affected by the ban.
- If you are from a country listed in the proclamation and do NOT hold a valid visa issued before June 9, 2025 you are likely subject to the travel ban.
