On March 22, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell ordered that effective at 4:30 pm on Monday, March 23, all individuals currently living in Honolulu are to stay-at-home and work-at-home, and to practice social distancing. Persons may leave their homes to carry out essential activities such as purchasing food, or to work at essential businesses. All public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit are prohibited. All travel except for essential travel is also prohibited.
Violations of these orders is punishable as a misdemeanor, with fines up to $5,000, up to a year in jail, or both.
