Preparing for Visa Clearance

Overview

The following 3 items are not directly related to the ISS Manoa Visa Clearance process, but are required in order to complete Visa Clearance. These steps should be completed as soon as you can confirm you will be attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa and you may have already completed these items previously.

1. Activate your UH Account and UH Username

A UH Google Account is required to access the electronic forms required for Visa Clearance.

  • Go to the University of Hawaii's Check Status of UH Username page to activate your UH Account.
You will need your UH ID number provided to you on your admission letter.

Having your UH Google Account gives you your UH Username and UH email ending in hawaii.edu

2. Identify Your Visa Type

  • Check which document you received as your Certificate of Eligibility (CoE):
    • F-1 Students receive Form I-20 "Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status"
    • J-1 Students receive Form DS-2019 "Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status (J-Nonimmigrant)"

F-1 and J-1 Students have different requirements and regulations, knowing your type is important for your international studies.

3. Pay your SEVIS Fee (also known as an I-901 Fee)

Your SEVIS Fee must be paid in order for your record to be registered.
A registered record is required for your attendance.
