General Issues

Please view below identified issues that impact general functionalities throughout Banner 9. The issues reported here may be helpful tips and tricks, notifications on new features from Banner 8 to Banner 9, or suggested workarounds while we continue to work on modifications or defects. Once issues are resolved they will be removed from this page.


Favorites with Comma in Description

Favorites, Banner, My Banner and My Links break (user clicks and nothing happens) if the user added an Admin Page or Process as a favorite and the description has a comma (,) in it.

Recommendation: If you encounter this issue, at this point in time, please contact Banner Central (banner-student-functionals@lists.hawaii.edu) and we will have to request a script run to remove the specific page or process that is causing the issue from your favorites. How do I resolve the following error message, “Your user account is in EXPIRED status. Attempting to processing jobs will fail.”?

This error message indicates that your Oracle password has expired. To reset your Oracle password:

  1. Login to Banner 9 with your UH username and password.
  2. Access GUAPSWD Oracle Password Change page.
  3. In the “Oracle Password” box, enter your current Oracle (Banner 8) password. If you are unsure or cannot remember your Oracle password, email banner-reset@lists.hawaii.edu.
  4. In the “New Oracle Password” and “Verify Password” boxes, enter a new Oracle password.
  5. Click on “Save.”
  6. Logout of Banner 9.

Oracle Expired

When you return to Banner 9, you will be able to access and process jobs.

ERROR MESSAGE: YOU ARE RUNNING WITH A QUERY ONLY ROLE

If you are receiving this message on a page that you normally have update access to, you may have previously opened (and not exited out of) a page that you only have query access. You will need to return to that query only page and click to exit out of the page, then return to the page you want to perform the update.

FILTERING

Advanced Filter

You are able to use an Advanced Filter option when conducting your search. Instead of using the %, <, >, etc., you may used the Advanced Filter options.

Clear All

Selecting the “X” in the top right corner or “Clear All” is canceling the entire filter. This will return all values possible. When you conduct a filter, the filter bar will always display.

EXPORTING

Header

In Banner 9, the header will display double quotes when exporting (ex. ”Term”). This is a change from Banner 8 (ex. ‘Term’).

Extract Data vs. Export

To export data into an Excel in Banner 8, you would do so through Help, and selecting Extract Data with Key or No Key. In Banner 9, you will complete this task through the Tools, and selecting Export (Shift + F1).

DATE FIELD

Date fields are now displayed as MM/DD/YYYY versus in Banner 8’s DD-MON-YYYY.

Activity Date

In Banner 9, the Activity Date field has been moved from within the page to the footer when you are on a record. This is a concern for some pages, such as SFASTCA, and has been brought up to Ellucian. Currently there is no anticipated resolution for this issue that impacts Banner 9.

Auto-Date Conversion

Banner 9 accepts dates entered with a minimum of 5 digits but may convert them incorrectly without error.

GOAMTCH

The Gender field accepts a lower case “f” for female but errors out when entering “m,” for male. This field will only accept “Male,” or through using the drop down.
