Content:

Students will work in cooperative learning groups to research and present to the class one use of the ti leaf.

Motivation/Preteach

Teacher will read aloud his/her sample shape poem, haiku, or/and rhyming poem about the use of the ti leaf to make a lei.

Procedure:

1. Teacher will do his/her ti leaf lei presentation.

2. Instruct students that they will work in groups to make their own presentations.

3. Review cooperative learning group expectations. (Everyone must participate, arguments must be settled within group first - then if that fails - teacher will intervene, working voices, no mingling among other groups or walking around the room without a valid purpose.)

4. Review group presentations' criteria using the chart paper. (Everyone has a spoken or written part, a visual aid is required, and three facts must be included.)

5. Topic assignment will be chosen at random by the teacher.

6. Students will return to their seats and put their head down to show teacher they are ready for the group activity.

7. Teacher will pass out handouts to each group.

8. Teacher will circulate around room to monitor each group's progress.

Closing Event:

1. If time permits, group presentations may begin.

2. After each group presentation, students will give comments and constructive criticism to the group. (What did they like about their presentation? What things did they learn? Did the group run into any problems?)

3. If there is no time for group presentations, teacher will wrap up lesson by commenting on groups' progress, some positive things that I observed, some positive things that I observed, some areas of improvement that could be worked on.

Assessments:

-Students' will have factual data written down or presented based on the handout readings.

-Students' tasks are completed after working in cooperative learning groups.

-Presentations are completed following the criteria that I posted up.
