Norman Okimoto, president of Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union, joins the search advisory committee for the director of athletics position at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Okimoto will be replacing John Dean, chairman and CEO of Central Pacific Bank, who stepped down due to business travel commitments and scheduling conflicts.

“In the best interest of the search process and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, John Dean’s extensive business and travel schedule will make it difficult for his valued participation in the next critical phase of this search. We thank John for his willingness to be a part of the initial search activities,” said Chair Warren Haruki. “We are fortunate to have an equally respected community member as Norman Okimoto joins the committee immediately. Norman has been the president of the Grand Slam Club, the booster organization that supports the UH baseball team, for the past 12 years. Besides his excellent financial knowledge, he is a strong supporter of the University of Hawaiʻi and its athletics program.”

Chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman added “I would like to personally thank John for the time that he has given and to welcome Norman to the committee. We are excited to have Norman join UH Mānoa’s ongoing efforts in searching for the next director of athletics.”
