Karla Ramo

Leeward Community College student Reschi Karla Ramo has been named a 2015 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar. She is the top scoring student from Hawaiʻi and the state’s only Coca-Cola New Century Scholar recipient.

As a Coca-Cola New Century Scholar, Ramo will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Foundation and Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and be recognized at the Annual Phi Theta Kappa Presidents Breakfast held during the American Association of Community College’s Annual Convention on April 20 in San Antonio, Texas.

Ramo is also a graduate of Waipahu High School and among the first of the Waipahu students to participate in the Early College Program partnership that Leeward has had with Waipahu High School since fall 2012.

The program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.

Selection was based on the score earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition. There was more than 1,700 applications received this year. Nominations were evaluated on academic achievement, leadership, service and a response to a significant endeavor.
