Leaders from Hawaiʻi’s energy sector met on August 11 to help the University of Hawaiʻi refine its strategy and develop additional tools to reduce its energy use and work collaboratively towards achieving net-zero energy production.

Sponsored and supported by Hawaiʻi i Energy, participants included representatives from the Public Utilities Commission, Hawaiʻi State Legislature, Hawaiian Electric Company, Ulupono Initiative, Blue Planet Foundation, Energy Excellerator, Kamehameha Schools, Sustainable Endowments Institute and key stakeholders from across the University of Hawaiʻi System.

A proposed design and structure for a Green Revolving Fund dedicated to investing in low-risk, high-return energy efficiency projects was presented. The group provided critical input to refine and expand the proposed fund into a comprehensive strategy to deliver impact at scale.

“The University of Hawaiʻi recognizes the need to work together with its internal and external stakeholders to accelerate implementation of energy solutions and is excited about helping the state achieve its ambitious energy goals through this collaborative approach,” said UH System Sustainability Coordinator Matthew Lynch.
