A women’s basketball sophomore guard and men’s basketball junior forward are the first University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Pepsi Athletes for 2020.

Mandi Kawaha had great games as the Vulcans opened 2020 with upsets of Fresno Pacific and Point Loma. Against the Sunbirds, she had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Additionally, Kawaha hit key free throws that aided the 63-51 victory. Against Point Loma, she had a season-high 20 points and hit two major three-pointers as the Vulcans took the lead. For the week, Kawaha earned 40 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Sasa Vuksanovic also played great games in the opening homestands. Against Biola, Vuksanovic had a career-high 26 points while also grabbing four rebounds and handing out four assists. The junior center had 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in a 82-73 victory over Fresno Pacific, and he added 16 points, 3 boards and 4 assists in a loss to Point Loma. During the homestand, Vuksanovic earned 55 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists.
