adopt a animal

To honor its mission of promoting understanding, appreciation and conservation of Pacific Ocean marine life, the Waikīkī Aquarium will celebrate its 117th birthday with special promotions and a birthday beach clean up, Friday, March 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is the second-oldest public aquarium in the U.S. and is internationally known for its coral propagation and diverse exhibits.

The public is asked to show its support and visit the gift shop to take advantage of the limited-time Adopt an Animal promotion, join its Birthday Beach Clean-Up, and/or participate in the Kau Kau Box fundraiser.

Adopt an Animal Gift Shop Promotion

Friday, March 19, 10 a.m.—2 p.m.

A way to celebrate the Waikīkī Aquarium is by bringing home a new ocean friend. Although the galleries are temporarily closed, stop by the gift shop. Select one of four adoption packages, all of which include an aquarium exclusive stuffed animal, Official Certificate of Adoption, Diamond Bakery Sea Animal Crackers and more. All Adopt an Animal proceeds support the aquarium’s efforts and initiatives.

Birthday Beach Clean-Up

Friday, March 19, 10 a.m.—2 p.m.

Help the aquarium keep the island trash free at its birthday beach clean up. Groups of up to five can check in at the aquarium anytime between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to pick up a bucket and tools. Each group will then proceed to clean the surrounding parks and beaches. Tools must be returned by 2 p.m. All participants must wear a mask, practice social distancing and follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. Advanced registration is required, and space is limited.

Kau Kau Box Fundraiser

For the anniversary month of March, support the aquarium and support local by purchasing a Kau Kau Box. The food kit is a unique creation of chef prepared meals paired with fresh, local ingredients delivered straight to the purchaser. Meals are created using ingredients from local farmers, fishermen and chefs from around Oʻahu. The aquarium will receive 10% of all proceeds for each Kau Kau Box purchased through the Aquarium’s website.

Stay connected

While the Waikīkī Aquarium is temporarily closed and undergoing renovations, the public can stay connected with the aquarium through its virtual experiences, activities and classes. Visit their website to view the various offerings.
