University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo outfielders Chris Aubort and Vevesi Liilii are the final 2021 Pepsi Athletes of the Week after their baseball and softball performances in southern California.
Right fielder Aubort wrapped up a solid season at the PacWest AQ Pod Series in Azusa, May 20–22. He went 6-for-16 (.375) and scored four times in the four games against Azusa Pacific University and Academy of Art. He also drove in three runs, hit a double, a home run and stole a base. On the season Aubort led the Vulcans in doubles (9), home runs (3) and was second in RBI (15). He also stole seven bases in nine attempts.
Center fielder Liilii crushed the ball during the NCAA West Region tournament in Irvine, Calif., May 19–21. The senior hit three home runs, including one each in upsets over Western Washington University (WWU) and No. 1 seed Concordia University (CUI). She was 4-for-11 in the four games, scored four times, and drove in five runs. Two home runs came against the top pitchers in the region—WWU‘s Anna Kasner and CUI‘s Callie Nunes, both the Pitchers of the Year in their conferences. Liilii hit .321 this season and led the Vulcans in home runs (5) and RBI (27).
