Several University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo basketball players earned All-PacWest awards for the 2022–23 season. The six Vulcans recognized were Nadjrick Peat, Carlos Ramsey Jr., Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones and Darren Williams on the men’s basketball team, and Mandi Kawaha and Kamalu Kamakawiwoʻole from the women’s basketball team.
Men’s basketball


Peat and Ramsey Jr. earned PacWest Defender of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards, respectively. They are the first players at UH Hilo to ever win All-PacWest men’s basketball season awards.
Peat was a disruptive force in the middle of the paint on defense, leading the PacWest with 62 blocked shots. He was also a three-time PacWest Defender of the Week recipient this season, with his most recent honor being on February 13.
Ramsey Jr. averaged 16.7 points per game and shot 54% from the field. He was also named to the All-PacWest men’s basketball second team.
Tait-Jones and Williams were both named to the All-PacWest first team. Tait-Jones averaged 17.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and almost four assists per game, while Williams averaged 15.9 points and 4.6 assists per game, and converted 84% of his free throw attempts.

Women’s basketball
Kawaha landed a spot on the All-PacWest first team. She became UH Hilo’s all-time leading scorer this season (1,485 points) and was second in the PacWest in points (17.8 per game) and assists (3.9 per game).
Kamakawiwoʻole was named to the All-PacWest third team. This is her first All-PacWest selection. She was also named PacWest Defender of the Week on December 5, 2022.
