Honolulu Community College Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) Jeff Stearns has been selected as an Academic Member with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). Stearns will begin his three-year term on July 1, 2023.

“It is a great privilege for me to be elected to be on this ACCJC commission,” said Stearns.

As an ACCJC member, Stearns will assist in determining if a community college will receive accreditation by ensuring that the institution meets all requirements to provide a quality education experience. ACCJC oversees the accreditation for the 136 community colleges in California, Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.

Stearns has worked with Honolulu CC since 2010, and has served as the ALO since May 2017. Alongside the chancellor and the campus, the ALO facilitates and maintains institutional accreditation activities, and manages reports and ACCJC team visits to keep the college on track. Stearns managed Honolulu CC’s last report, and the college received accreditation by the ACCJC in January 2019 for seven years.
