Senior second baseman Maya Nakamura of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa softball team was honored as the Big West Field Player of the Week after powering UH‘s offense and making stellar plays on defense. She led UH with eight hits—six of which went for extra bases with two doubles, a triple and three home runs. This is Nakamura’s second conference weekly honor after receiving Big West Freshman of the Week honors on April 12, 2021.
Nakamura came through in the clutch this past week as the senior hit .444 (8-for-18) and led the Rainbow Wahine with seven runs scored, two doubles, a triple, three home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.167 slugging percentage. She had multiple RBI in four of UH‘s six games this week and currently she is on an eight-game hitting streak. Nakamura recorded a season-high four RBI against Cleveland State University. All three of her homers drove in three runs each. She accounted for 16 of UH‘s 36 total runs for the week.
Defensively, Nakamura made highlight reel plays and was solid at second base with 14 assists and 20 put-outs for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
