University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa libero Tayli Ikenaga was awarded her first career Big West women’s volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honor for her performance in a pair of contests against Pepperdine.
The senior set career highs in back-to-back matches and posted 60 digs in UH’s two-match series with Pepperdine. Ikenaga surpassed her previous high of 24 digs on September 6, with 27 digs, and then exceeded that mark again with 33 digs in UH’s five-set victory on September 7. She recorded 14 digs in the third set alone and became the first UH player to tally over 30 digs in a match since 2018.
Ikenaga posted 20-plus digs in consecutive matches for the second time in her career and the first time since 2021. She also handled 28 serves without an error in the series and served up three aces, including a walk-off ace.
This marks Ikenaga’s second Big West weekly award of her career. She was named Freshman of the Week in October 2021.
