University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa men’s volleyball assistant coach Kupono Fey was listed among the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s 2024 Thirty Under 30 Awards program.

Fey is entering his third season with the Rainbow Warriors, whom he was a four-year letterman from 2014–17. He captained the 2017 squad which recorded a then-single-season record 27 wins and advanced to the NCAA semifinals.

Following a four-year professional career, he joined Charlie Wade’s staff in 2023 and helped lead UH to national championship title match appearance and Big West championship in 2023. He also coached Outrigger VC Boys 16s to a runner-up finish at the USAV Championship in 2022.

“Volleyball has given me so much; it has given me lifelong friends, gave me the ability to travel to places I wouldn’t normally, to live abroad, gave me a great education and prepared me for life after volleyball,” Fey said. “I’ve always known coaching was my passion. I want to share all my knowledge with these players to give them opportunities and experiences I had and more, so they can reach their full potential.”

The Thirty Under 30 honors program recognizes up-and-coming coaches in these different sectors of the sport—college, club and beach—who serve in a range of roles, from head coach to volunteer assistant to club director.
