
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa women’s water polo attacker Ema Vernoux was named Big West Water Polo Player of the Week on February 26 after scoring a team-high 14 goals over four matches at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
The freshman led the Rainbow Wahine to a 3-1 record and third-place finish in the tournament against top-ranked teams. She scored four goals in UH’s historic 8-5 win over No. 3 UCLA, their first victory over the Bruins since 2011.
Vernoux totaled 14 goals across the tournament, including a game winner against No. 4 California. She now leads UH with 43 goals, ranking third in the Big West. UH moved up to No. 3 in national polls and begins Big West play on March 7 at UC Santa Barbara.
