
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa women’s tennis player Ana Vilcek earned her third career Big West Player of the Week honor after going 2-0 against No. 51 Cal Poly and No. 50 University of California, Santa Barbara.
Vilcek’s week was highlighted by recording the biggest upset of her four-year UH career—defeating University of California, Santa Barbara’s 10th-ranked player in the nation on March 29.
In singles action, Vilcek opened the week on Wednesday, March 26 by nearly shutting out 50th-ranked Cal Poly’s Kennedy Buntrock, 6-1, 6-0.
On Hawaiʻi’s Senior Day vs. UC Santa Barbara, Vilcek, UH’s lone four-year senior, came through with the biggest win of her career, upending 10th-ranked Amelia Honer in a hard fought match that ended in a third set, super tie-breaker, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8). Vilcek snapped Honer’s five-match win streak.
