Former University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa track and field coach Rick Nakashima received the 2025 Kāne Fernandez Community Service Award, presented by the UH Letterwinners Club, on March 28.
As CEO-Partner of Ruby Tuesday Hawaiʻi, Nakashima has supported UH Athletics through programs such as the Braddahhood and Sistahhood Grindz, providing supplemental meals for student-athletes, and has donated tens of thousands of meals to those in need. He also partnered with Aloha United Way to raise funds for community initiatives.
The annual award honors the late Kāne Fernandez and recognizes past UH letterwinners who volunteer selflessly to advance the community.
