Bank of Hawaiʻi and University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Athletics announced a seven-year extension to their naming rights agreement for the iconic Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The extension brings the total life of the contract to 17 years, ensuring the Bankoh Arena name will remain on the facility through June 30, 2037.
In August 2025, the venue was officially renamed “Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center” to highlight the bank’s deep community roots and its familiar, trusted identity among generations of residents.
Longtime supporting partnership
Bank of Hawaiʻi has been a longstanding corporate partner and supporter of UH Mānoa Athletics for decades. In 2020, the bank stepped up with a major investment to help the athletics department navigate the financial challenges and disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The original naming rights agreement was a 10-year contract, and this year marks the seventh year of that foundational commitment.
“For decades, Bank of Hawaiʻi and the University of Hawaiʻi have shared a commitment to helping our communities thrive,” said Jim Polk, president and CEO of Bank of Hawaiʻi. “Extending our naming rights for Bankoh Arena reflects our continued support for UH student-athletes and the important role this venue plays in bringing people together to celebrate, connect, and create lasting memories for generations to come.”
“We are extraordinarily grateful for Bank of Hawaiʻi’s unwavering commitment to Our Team, Hawaiʻi’s Team,” said UH Mānoa Athletics Director Matt Elliott. “This extension demonstrates their continued direct impact on the success of our student-athletes. Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center is a special place where our community comes together as one, and we are thrilled to carry this shared legacy forward for years to come.”
Our Team, Hawaiʻi’s Team
The continued partnership supports the “Our Team, Hawaiʻi’s Team Fund” within the UH Mānoa Athletics Department. The extension will continue to provide programmatic, operational, administrative and educational support to the athletics program. These resources directly benefit student-athletes by funding academic support, student well-being, nutrition, operations, travel, equipment and professional development.
Originally constructed in 1994, Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center is celebrating its 32nd anniversary this year. More than three decades after opening its doors, the historic building continues to be recognized as one of the premier athletic and entertainment venues in the state of Hawaiʻi.
