Reminder Traffic/Parking Advisory: Expect delays around UH Mānoa campus for football season opener

The University of Hawaiʻi is asking commuters and residents who live near UH Mānoa to anticipate heavier-than-normal traffic on Saturday, August 27 due to the soldout UH football season opener at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex in the Lower Campus area. 

Traffic is expected to increase in the early afternoon on University Avenue, Dole Street, Old Wai‘alae Road and other surrounding neighborhood streets near campus along with both directions of the H-1 Freeway, including the onramps and offramps. A pre-game concert is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. and kick off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. 

UH staff assisted by special duty HPD officers will be stationed on the surrounding roads around campus to ensure that traffic flows as efficiently as possible before and after the game. Everyone is asked to please plan accordingly and the university thanks the community for their patience and cooperation. 

No tailgating

Tailgating on the UH Mānoa campus including the Lower Campus parking structure is strictly prohibited. Smoking, vaping, alcohol, cooking devices are NOT permitted.

The consumption of food and beverage will be allowed at UH athletic venues including the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex. There will be more than 20 food and beverage vendors inside the complex. Outside food and beverages are prohibited.

Important parking information 

Lower Campus parking

Fans MUST have a pre-purchased printed football parking pass to park in any Lower Campus lots. Parking passes for Lower Campus must be purchased ahead of time at eTicketHawaii.comClick here to purchase a Lower Campus parking pass. Parking gates into Lower Campus will open at 12:30 p.m.

There are three entry gates into Lower Campus:

  • Dole Street 

  • Old Wai‘alae Road

  • H-1 Exit 24B Westbound/UH Access Exit

Those holding permits in reserved lots, must enter the designated gate specified on the pass. Those with “Standard Pass – Not Reserved” permits may enter any gate, however, the Old Wai‘alae Road gate is recommended. Visit the UH Mānoa Athletics website for parking maps.

Upper Campus parking

Fans without a Lower Campus parking pass may purchase parking for Upper Campus lots on game day at either the East-West Road parking booth or the Maile Way parking booth. Upper Campus parking is $15. There are two entry gates into Upper Campus—Maile Way and East-West Road. Parking staff will be stationed throughout the campus to direct fans to the parking areas.

Rideshare and drop-off

For those using rideshare options to campus, drop-off and pick-up is located in front of the Center for Disability Studies office on Lower Campus, across from the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. All rideshare vehicles must exit out of Varsity gate located across the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. For kūpuna and ADA drop-off, enter the Dole Street or H-1/UH Access Exit entrance and follow the signs into Lower Campus Road. Drop-off location is in front of the Center on Disability Studies. Vehicles must exit out of Varsity gate located across the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Neighborhood parking

If you are attending the game and plan to park in the neighborhoods around the Mānoa campus, please be respectful of area residents and do not block driveways.
