Tom Brislin, chairman of the UH Mānoa Academy for Creative Media, has been selected in a national competition for the prestigious Faculty Fellowship program of the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE). As a 2007 Faculty Fellow, Brislin will be the guest of NATPE for its annual conference in January, including a day of special industry seminars for educators, and have access to the exhibition floor and such professional sessions as television programming, distribution, advertising, and audience measurement. He will also be awarded a year‘s membership in the organization.

The NATPE Educational Foundation Faculty Fellowships are designed to connect the industry with educational leaders to track the trends in television programming, policy and practice, to better prepare student writers, directors and producers.

"Professor Brislin has been the driving force behind the development of both the ACM curriculum and faculty," said Chris Lee, director and founder of the academy. "He‘ll now be able to expand his professional as well as academic networks to further enhance the dynamic real-world knowledge we‘re able to bring directly into the classroom to benefit our students."

The National Association of Television Program Executives for more than 30 years has been the central organization of program creators, sellers, buyers and advertisers. The 2007 conference, scheduled for January 16-18 in Las Vegas, will also focus on strategies for creating, licensing and monetizing television and original content for mobile distribution, including games, graphics, multimedia, marketing and promotions, video, messaging and other cutting edge wireless and digital content domestically and globally.

"The industry movement toward digital content and delivery fit nicely with the structure and emphasis of ACM," Brislin said. "We hope we can make some strong and lasting connections for our students."

The Academy for Creative Media is the center for digital media production and study at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
