New Web site outlines Manoa emergency action plans

The Manoa campus Emergency Management Office has unveiled a new Web site that provides a wealth of information about what to do in a variety of emergency situations.
"We have been working hard to provide a single source for emergency response information as a part of our ongoing review of campus emergency preparedness," said Manoa Interim Chancellor Denise Konan. "Our Emergency Management Coordinator, Mel Won, has pulled together every resource we have available to us. Now it‘s up to the campus community to take the time to learn about response options."
The Web site
These emergencies include: hurricanes and severe storms, tsunami and coastal flooding, volcanic activity, fire, bomb threats and explosions, biological and other hazardous material exposure, waterspouts, earthquakes, landslides and mudslides, war and terrorist attack, utility outages, civil disturbance and labor strikes, and aircraft and fallen object accidents.
"Safety and security of students, faculty, staff, campus visitors and campus property are a priority at Manoa," said Interim Vice Chancellor for Administration, Finance and Operations Kathleen Cutshaw. "Unfortunately we have had our share of incidents to confront in the past year or two, including a major fire, flooding in October 2004 and March 2006, extended power outages, and the earthquake just a few weeks ago. I am pleased that our Office of Safety and Security has completed this major part of our emergency response plan."
The new Web site also includes a link to the 47-page Manoa Campus Emergency Response Plan that has been available elsewhere on Web since February 2006.
