Application deadline near for Kapiolani Community College's new degree pathway partnership program with UH Manoa

HONOLULU — Kapiʻolani Community College has launched a new dual-admission, dual-enrollment program with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa called Kaʻieʻie. Through Kaʻieʻie, students are admitted to UH Mānoa but take all their classes at Kapiʻolani Community College until they are ready to transfer smoothly and successfully.

Kaʻieʻie students will easily be able to access resources at both institutions, including libraries, tutoring and academic advising. Upon transfer to UH Mānoa, they will receive all the benefits of a continuing UH Mānoa student, including earlier registration. Currently, transfer students to UH Mānoa register as a transfer student right before classes start.

High school seniors and current Kapiʻolani CC students who wish to participate in the Kaʻieʻie program must submit their application to the Kaʻieʻie program by February 1, 2008 for the Fall 2008 semester. To be eligible, students must meet the criteria for admission to UH Mānoa, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA at both campuses, and maintain good academic standing at both campuses.

"Every student who plans to earn a bachelor‘s degree from UH Mānoa should join Kaʻieʻie," said Louise Pagotto, Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Kapiʻolani Community College. "This program allows students to complete their university degree more quickly and more affordably. It is designed to smooth the way for successful transition from Kapiʻolani CC to the four-year campus."

Some of the other advantages of enrolling in the Kaʻieʻie program include:

· One application and one application fee;

· Financial aid applies to both institutions for the same term (for qualified students);

· Increased flexibility in scheduling with access to more classes; and

· Access to libraries, computer labs, and other services at both campuses (subject to any student fees).
