UH Manoa appoints Interim Dean for Natural Sciences

Botany Department Chair and Professor Alan H. Teramura has been appointed Interim Dean of UH Mānoa‘s College of Natural Sciences, pending appointment of a permanent replacement.



Professor Teramura has been Botany Chair since 2005. He has formerly served as Director of the Lyon Arboretum and the Senior Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate Division at UH. He earned his Ph.D. in Physiological Ecology from Duke University, and his Master‘s and Bachelor of Arts degrees from California State University at Fullerton.



His is internationally known for his research work in global climate change, particularly on the effects of increases in UV light resulting from ozone depletion on terrestrial plant productivity. He has authored over 100 articles in scientific journals, books, and reports and serves on a United Nations Programme on the Environment panel, which is responsible for summarizing the state-of-the-art in ozone depletion research annually.



The College of Natural Sciences has over 150 faculty members and is organized into eight academic departments and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees.
