Kawabata Receives National Garden Clubs Scholarship

A senior majoring in tropical horticulture at the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is the recipient of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. $3,500 scholarship for 2002-2003.

Andrea Kawabata, who is also pursuing a certificate in plant tissue culture, plans to graduate in Fall 2003 with a bachelor of science in agriculture, specializing in tropical horticulture. Post graduation, she plans on owning and operating a dendrobium orchid farm where she will propagate new varieties of dendrobiums.

Kawabata is the daughter of Ann and Howard Kawabata of Hilo.

Each year the National Garden Clubs offers 32 scholarships nationwide to upper-level undergraduate or graduate students in various fields of agriculture, horticulture or forestry.
