The public is invited to a presentation on “How to Retrofit Post and Pier Foundation Vulnerabilities Against Earthquake Damage” on Saturday, December 5th, 9 a.m., in the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo UCB 100. There is no admission charge and a continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m.

The project is based on numerous field studies of post and pier homes on the Big Island. Designs of typical retrofits were developed to mitigate against the weakest vulnerabilities and reduce the risk of collapse. There will also be a preview of a new interactive electronic tool being developed at UH Hilo, which will help select the appropriate retrofit drawings for one’s home and get one started with an estimated list of materials.

Speakers will include engineers, scientists and Civil Defense.

Call the CSAV Office at 974-7631 for additional information.
