DeMent Joins MKAEC

A construction manager is the latest addition to the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo's Mauna Kea Astronomy Education Center (MKAEC) project, announced Project Director George Jacob.

Bill DeMent joins the MKAEC staff to oversee construction of the $28 million facility. Prior to joining the MKAEC team, DeMent worked as project engineer/project manager for three-and-a-half years with Willocks Construction Corp. on the Big Island. Prior to joining Willocks, he was an independent contractor doing project and land management for companies such as the Estate of James Campbell, AMFAC Land Company, and Huliwai Tropical Plantations on Oʻahu. He also served as senior project engineer and civil engineer at Oʻahu Sugar Company.

DeMent graduated from UH Manoa with a bachelor of science in civil engineering in 1983.

MKAEC will be a world-class exhibition and planetarium complex, to be located in UH Hilo's University of Science and Technology Park. Ground breaking is scheduled for late 2002.
