Windward Community College will launch Hawaiʻi‘s first chapter of the Psi Beta National Honor Society on November 8 at the Akoakoa Room at Windward CC. Psi Beta is the first national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges, and is the only two-year college honor society approved for membership in the Association of College Honor Societies.

Members are eligible to participate in national, regional, and local psychological association programs, including paper and poster presentations, and are eligible for student affiliate membership in the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society. To join the society, students must be enrolled at an accredited two-year college with an overall GPA of 3.0 or rank in the top 35 percent and have at least a "B" average in the psychology program; have completed one semester of a psychology or psychology focused course; and have demonstrated a genuine interest in psychology and high standards of personal behavior and integrity.

The society was inspired by Ruth Cousins, a former Psi Chi Executive Officer, and established by Carol Tracy in 1981. The society currently has 169 chapters and 19,170 members and is an affiliated member of the American Psychological Society. The mission is to provide professional development of students through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research, and community service.
