University of Hawai`i at Mānoa electrical engineering undergraduates Larry Martin and Xi Hang Cao were each awarded a $10,000 scholarship for being selected as recipients of the prestigious National Consortium for Measurement and Signature Intelligence Research (NCMR) Scholars Program.

The purpose of this program is to encourage students to consider technical career paths within the intelligence community, and awards are competitively granted to undergraduates who have achieved an outstanding academic record. The award money will be applied towards tuition, books and housing.

This is Martin’s second year as an NCMR Scholarship recipient, and he is continuing his research in radio frequency and infrasound applications within the intelligence arena. His advisor is Professor Wayne Shiroma.

Cao’s research involves developing image processing algorithms toward applications in cell identification, biological assays, and biosensing. His advisor is Assistant Professor Aaron Ohta.
