The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Performing Arts Department presents the dance concert Great Leaps on Wednesday, December 8, and Thursday, December 9, 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

This year’s performance features over 150 dancers in original works by instructors, Celeste Staton and Annie Bunker, including ballet, modern and jazz. Performing Arts students Kimo Apaka and Cristina Hussey will sing a Frank Sinatra medley to accompany the Dance Ensemble.

Performing Arts major Heather Cloud presents her culminating senior project of original choreography depicting relationships and uncertain decisions. The Performing Arts Learning Center, under the direction of Jackie Seaquist, will do a Bollywood-style dance based on the Hindu legends of Radha and Krishna. Cheryl Aue and her students will do a tap dance number.

Hawaiʻi Community College’s aerial dance classes will take to single-point trapezes directed by Annie Bunker. Great Leaps veteran Dori Yamada brings live Taiko drums to the stage to accompany her piece, “The Age of Invisible Demons: A Futuristic Fable.” And UH Hilo dancers Babatunji Johnson, Grady Sullivan and Stephanie Shepherd are showcased in original works encompassing hip hop and contemporary dance.
