Three UH Hilo students receive Droste Awards
University of Hawaiʻi at HiloThe University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo English department has presented three students with the 2010 Droste Awards for outstanding papers.
Senior Kyle Fuhriman received the $500 Outstanding Upper-Division English Paper for his composition “In Defense of a More Equitable Heaven.” Sophomores Scheherazade Folley-Regusters and Rebekah Ilave received $250 awards. Folley-Regusters’ “Portrayal and Impact of Asian ‘Bad Guys’ in Film” was named the Outstanding 200-Level English Paper. Ilave’s “Facing up to Facebook: Pros and Cons in Academic Performance” took Outstanding English as a Second Language/Freshman Composition Paper.
The awards are made possible by an $810,000 bequest by the estate of the late Howard and Yoneko Droste, long-time faculty members who taught a combined total of 45 years at UH Hilo.
