New Zealand artist Cathryn Shine is the Howard and Yoneko Droste Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.

Shine, an associate professor at the University of Canterbury College of Arts in Christchurch, New Zealand, has full access to campus art studios to pursue research. In return, she’ll teach a special topic course, Art 494: Lithography and Studio Open Forum, to a select group of advanced students. She will also deliver a public presentation in February, date and time to be announced.

Shine organized the 2010 Pacific Rim International Print Exhibition at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts Gallery. The exhibition is dedicated to its founder, the late Wayne Miyamoto, who was a professor of art at UH Hilo. Shine is also involved with an unfolding vision of a “Pan-Pacific Artists Forum” as legacy of Miyamoto's contribution to the art world.

Shine will be at UH Hilo until February 18, 2011. Her fellowship post was made possible through a generous bequest to the UH Hilo art department by the late Howard and Yoneko Droste, longtime faculty at UH Hilo.
