The Hawaii Independent Insurance Agents Association (HIIA), the leading organization for independent insurance professionals in Hawai‘i, made a $2,500 gift to the University of Hawai‘i–West Oʻahu to fund student scholarships for an innovative new certificate program that trains risk management, personal and commercial insurance professionals and prepares students for licensure examination.

“We are committed to supporting Hawai‘i’s insurance industry and the development of qualified professionals,” said HIIA Executive Director Sonia Leong. “This scholarship fund was made possible by a generous donation to the HIIA from one of our members, Insurance Associates, Inc. It is with the support of dedicated members like these that we are able to open doors to future insurance professionals who serve the people of Hawai‘i.”

UH West O‘ahu’s Certificate in Risk Management and Insurance was created to provide needed professional training in an industry offering high starting salaries and long-term careers with immediate job openings.

“We are excited to offer programs like these that create pathways for students to find fulfilling careers after graduation,” said UH West O‘ahu Chancellor Gene Awakuni. “Our partnership with the risk management and insurance industry is a great example of UH West O‘ahu’s commitment to delivering quality programs that meet workforce needs and we are grateful to the HIIA and Hawai‘i’s insurance industry for making this possible.”
