KAHULUI, Maui, Hawai‘i — August 8, 2012 — This Saturday night will be a late one for University of Hawaiʻi Maui College students hosting Decision 2012, a live televised show covering the August 11 elections, which airs from 5:30 p.m. to midnight on MCTV Cable 55.  Students will be both behind the scenes working on the production and coordination of the show, as well as on camera asking questions of Maui County candidates as the election results roll in.

This is the third time that UH Maui College has partnered with Pacific Radio Group to produce an elections night show, which will be simultaneously broadcast on KNUI AM 900 and through a live Internet feed on MauiNow.com.

“Not only does Decision 2012 provide Maui County viewers with local, homegrown coverage of the issues,” said Mike Albert, UHMC media coordinator.  “It also provides an opportunity for students to work side-by-side with professionals in the industry.”

"Our goal is to get out the information people want, while we also provide a perspective of what the results mean to Maui County from candidates, supporters and students," said Wendy Osher, news director for Pacific Radio Group, who will co-host along with Pacific Radio Group’s Fred Guzman and Alaka'i Paleka.

“Decision 2012 gives our students the opportunity to engage in the process of politics live,” added Malia Davidson, program director of Liko A'e and student =coordinator of the event. “Our students come from a diverse demographic, which lends to their synergy on air. They will be learning every moment by hearing, seeing, and being a part of a production that comes every two years.”

Candidates currently scheduled to make an appearance in the studio, by phone or by Skype include: Erin McLaughlin, Simon Russell, George Fontaine, Manuwai Peters, Bart Mulvihill, Netra Halperin, Angus McKelvey, Chayne Marten, Gladys Baisa, Barbara Haliniak, Don Couch, Kaniela Ing, Alana Kay, Gil Keith-Agaran, Don Guzman, Elle Cochran, Eddie Kaahui, Joe Souki, John Carroll, Mike Victorino, Joe Blackburn, Roz Baker, J.
