Honolulu CC honors five distinguished alumni at Celebrate! 2012

First Hawaiian Bank will also be recognized as the college's outstanding community partner

Honolulu Community College will honor First Hawaiian Bank and five individuals for their professional achievements and contributions to the community at an awards dinner on Thursday, October 25, at Honolulu Community College entitled Celebrate! 2012.

The event will be emceed by local radio personality and entertainer Gregg Hammer, and will include a silent auction with unique one-of-a-kind items, Hawaiian food and live music entertainment. A portion of the funds raised will benefit Honolulu Community College’s General Scholarship Endowment Fund.
 
The 2012 Distinguished Alumni include:
  • Jerome W. Albritton (AS ’75 Police Science) - Jerome Albritton retired from the Arlington Police Department after serving the Arlington, Texas, community for 30 years and had the honor of being name Police Officer of the Year in 1992. He completed his AS degree in 1975 in police science at Honolulu CC while being stationed at Hickam Air Force Base. Albritton continued on to his second career with the Fort Worth Marshal’s Office where he is currently a sergeant assigned to the City Hall School attendance court sections.
  • Charles-Alan Castillo (AAS ’02 Human Services) - Charles-Allan L. Castillo, earned an associate of applied science degree in human service and graduated with honors in 2002. Since 2010, he has been the assistant vice president in resource development for Aloha United Way. A life-long learner, Castillo is pursuing a baccalaureate degree in social work at Hawaiʻi Pacific University. He has volunteered as a mentor for the Children’s Alliance of Hawaiʻi, served as a counselor with AUW’s Asthma Camp, and has been a guest speaker for Honolulu’s Human Services program.
  • Gary R. MacDonald (AS ’70 Automotive Mechanics Technology) - Gary MacDonald graduated with honors from Honolulu CC in 1970 and went on to receive his BS in engineering from California State University, Fullerton. An engineer for the Boeing Company, he recently surpassed his 35-year anniversary with the company. He received the honor of being accepted into Boeing’s Technical Fellowship, the youngest engineer to receive this honor within the Flight Deck Design group. MacDonald resides in Washington State with his wife and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, Washington State Science Olympiad and Honolulu’s High School to HCC recruitment event.
  • Jason T. Oshiro (AS ’94 Commercial Arts) - Jason Oshiro is a University of Hawaiʻi publication specialist for Honolulu Community College. After graduating from Honolulu CC in 1994, he went on to study and graduate from the prestigious California College of Arts and worked as a graphic designer in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas before returning back to Hawaiʻi. Known for his professionalism and design integrity, he has lent his talents to produce original work for Honolulu CC and the University of Hawai‘i System as a whole.
  • Jonathan K. Wong (AA ’98 Liberal Arts) - A 1998 honors graduate of Honolulu CC, Jonathan Wong became employed early on in his career at Honolulu Community College where he most recently served as the technology coordinator for the Native Hawaiian Center. He has since gone on to receive his BA with distinction in communications from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, an MS from Hawaiʻi Pacific University, MBA and MEd from UH Mānoa, and is currently seeking his master's degree in public administration at UH Mānoa. Wong is currently the Pathways Learning Support Coordinator at Kapiʻolani Community College.
 
First Hawaiian Bank will be honored as the 2012 Outstanding Community Partner. First Hawaiian Bank has been a proud sponsor of the Hawaiʻi High School Auto Academy along with Honolulu Community College, the Cutter Automotive Group, and various DOE high schools and Kamehameha Schools. Since the program’s inception in 2004, the bank has contributed over $125,000 to cover the student’s cost of tuition, tools and supplies. The program is geared to high school students interested in the automotive industry and provides them with advanced automotive training and college credit towards an Automotive Technology degree.
