WHAT: Dedication and blessing of Kauaʻi CCʻs Daniel K. Inouye Technology Center.
WHEN: Friday, October 18, 2013, at 1:00 pm.
WHERE: Kauaʻi Community College, 3-1901 Kaumualiʻi Hwy, Lihuʻe, HI 96766
WHO: The blessing will be conducted by Kahu Nani Hill of the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church. Mrs. Irene Inouye and the late Senator Inouye's son Ken Inouye will join Chancellor Helen Cox in the ceremony. Following the unveiling of the Center, Mrs. Inouye and Ken Inouye will present remarks.
DETAILS: Community partners, government and UH officials, friends, graduates of the Technology Education program and Kauaʻi CC's faculty, staff, and students will attend. Kauaʻi CC's Hawaiian Studies students and instructor Puali'ili'imaikalani Rossi will pay tribute to the late Senator Inouye and his family with an ʻOli and Hula. Kauaʻi CC faculty members who currently lead the programs of study offered in the Center, Georgeanne Friend, Mark Anderson, and recently retired faculty member Francis Takahashi will also present remarks on the late Senator's support of Kauaʻi CC's role in advancing technology in the Pacific, and current and future projections of the programs. Guests will be able to tour the Center that day.
The 18,000 sq. ft. Center is the home of electronics labs: Cisco Academy Netwworking Lab, Photonics Lab with laser and optics, and the Hawai`i Space Flight Lab. Senator Inouye was key in the creation and equipping of the Photonics and Optics Lab and in supporting the Hawaiʻi Space Flight Lab.
