HONOLULU – The Department of Education and Kapi‘olani Community College are pleased to present the 6th Annual Honolulu District Science and Engineering Fair on the grounds of Kapi‘olani Community College on February 14. The event opens with an oli at 8:00 a.m. and closes with an awards ceremony at about 4:00 p.m.

This year, students from16 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, and eight high schools will be competing for a berth in various categories to enter the Hawai‘i State Science and Engineering Fair, which is scheduled in April at the Hawai‘i State Convention Center.

Because of its award-winning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Program, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Louise Pagotto thought Kapi‘olani CC would be a natural fit and a perfect venue for this Fair. Chancellor Leon Richards commented, “We are committed to support schools that encourage students to be engaged in what they do, so they will appreciate learning, and be proud of their achievements. We are happy to partner with the Department of Education to excite young minds toward self-discovery.”

This year’s projects are intriguing. The titles are showstoppers:  “A-Mazing: Generating Solution Pathways for Randomized Mazes,” “The Road to Success is Always Under Construction,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Turbidity,” and how about, “Apple Everlasting”.

The Fair also features an art exhibit in Lama Library. The top winner’s art entry will be featured on the cover of next year’s Program and printed material.
