Nancy Johnson, Coordinator of the Maui Community College Nursing and Health Program, has been recognized as the Hawaiʻi Nurses Association (HNA) 2003 Nurse of the Year.

Johnson has professor at Maui Community College since 1983. She is a member of both the American Nurses Association and the Hawaiʻi Nurses Association and serves on the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems Institutional Review Board and the Maui Memorial Medical Center Ethics Committee. Johnson also received recognition as the Outstanding Educator Post-secondary Career & Technical Education in 2003.

In addition to providing leadership for the MCC Nursing Program for more than 20 years, she worked with colleagues in the dental community to establish the MCC Dental Assisting program and the Maui Oral Health Center.

The Maui Oral Health Center is the classroom and clinical site for the Dental Assisting Program and provides dental services to uninsured or underserved Maui residents.

Founded in 1917, the HNA serves as the organization for nursing in Hawaiʻi and is the only-full service professional organization representing Hawaiʻi‘s 10,000 registered nurses. HNA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, protects the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace through collective bargaining, project's a positive and realistic view of nursing to the community, and advocates for on health care issues affecting nurses and the public through lobbying the Hawaiʻi Legislature and regulatory agencies.
