UH Mānoa’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs has initiated a formal search process for the regular appointment of Dean of the College of Natural Sciences.  The previous Dean, Dr. William Ditto, served from July 2011 through July 2015, and Dr. Kristin Kumashiro, who was chair of the Department of Chemistry, has been named Interim Dean from 2015 to 2016.

“This is an absolutely key position to all of our efforts to move Mānoa forward, as the College provides all the key gateway courses in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, offers some of the most popular majors, and has strong graduate programs and research programs,” said Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Reed Dasenbrock.  “We look forward to a successful search for someone to lead the College of Natural Sciences to achieve new levels of excellence by pursuing an integrated and comprehensive academic program.”

College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Dean Maria Gallo will chair the 12-member Search Advisory Committee, which will recommend finalists to Chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman and Vice Chancellor Dasenbrock.  The committee includes chairs, faculty, staff and students from the College, as well as representatives of the Kualiˈi Council and the community.

For the job announcement, position description, and Search Advisory Committee members, please see the website at www.manoa.hawaii.edu/executivesearch/natsci.  Review of applications will begin on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, and will continue until the position is filled.
