KAPOLEI --- Kevin Ishida was named as the University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu’s new vice chancellor for administration, bringing decades of fiscal and administrative experience to the campus.

As the vice chancellor for administration (VCA), Ishida is tasked with assisting the chancellor in the overall strategic planning, organization, and oversight of administrative programs as the chief administrative and financial officer for UH West Oʻahu. The VCA is responsible for providing innovative, collaborative, and strategic leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring the campus budget, human resources and employee relations, capital improvement projects, information technology and computing services, government relations, facilities management, security, parking, auxiliary services, and environmental health and safety for UH West Oʻahu.

“I am very grateful to former Chancellor Rockne Freitas and interim Chancellor Doris Ching for this opportunity to serve as the vice chancellor for administration at UH West Oʻahu,” Ishida said. “It’s a very exciting time for UH West Oʻahu as we continue to expand the campus facilities and infrastructure to accommodate the growing student enrollment. I look forward to working with the entire UH West Oʻahu ʻohana as we build a campus that the Leeward coast can be proud of.”

Ishida most recently served as the vice chancellor for administrative services at Windward Community College, where he was also the chief fiscal authority. Prior to Windward Community College, he worked in a variety of fiscal and administrative roles throughout UH Mānoa. He was the chief administrative officer for the Department of Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, chief fiscal officer for the Hawaiʻi Natural Energy Institute, chief fiscal officer for extramural funds at UH Mānoa’s College of Engineering, and the assistant fiscal officer for UH Mānoa’s Summer Session.

Ishida received his bachelor’s of business administration – management at UH Mānoa.
