Students from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo turned in a strong, across-the-board performance at the 13th Annual HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) – Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference held recently on O’ahu, with all 10 delegates placing in their respective events.

The Public Service Announcement (PSA) Team A, comprised of Sheldon Cabudol, Lark Jason Canico (UH Hilo Alumni) and Kelly Gani, captured top honors for their PSA on “Prediabetes: Stopping a Runaway Train.” Team B, made up of Leslie Arce, Deserie Pagatpatan, Travis Taylor and Jeremy Villanueva, came in third with their PSA on the same topic.

Individual results saw Daniel Kimura finish second in Medical Terminology, Kateleen Caye Bio second in Pharmacology, and Kendrick Justin Dalmacio placing third.

Canico ended his term as the Hawai’i HOSA State Officer and Regional Coordinator and becomes co-advisor for the UH Hilo chapter along with the current advisor, Dr. Jarred Prudencio, of the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy.

The HOSA at UH Hilo team moves on to the International Conference, scheduled for June 27-30 at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.
