The Windward side’s creative destination will host the first-ever Ko‘olau Creative Media Conference at Windward Community College on Thursday, April 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The conference will feature speakers and breakout sessions for career-focused creative media artists and students interested in pursuing creative filmmaking (including performance work in the TV and film industries), documentary filmmaking, video game design and related fields.

FREE and open to students and the public.

The all-day event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and culminate with the annual Windward CC Pueo Literary and Art Journal book launch and student film showcase in the evening. All speakers and events will center around Palikū Theatre, the Jewel of the Windward side.

Speakers include Hawai‘i State Film Commissioner Donne Dawson, ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase executive director Gerard Elmore, Phoenix Artists, Inc. owner Gary Epstein, Pacific Islanders in Communications Executive Director Leanne Ferrer, and UH Academy for Creative Media (ACM) Founder and Director Chris Lee, among others.

The goal of the conference is to bring current and prospective students as well as local creative media professionals together and to connect them with opportunities to network and gain career-oriented training. Windward Community College will also debut its upcoming Academic Subject Certificate in Creative Media to demonstrate the college’s commitment to growing the local creative media industry.
