Linda Furuto, a professor at UH Mānoa, started teaching ethnomathematics at UH West Oʻahu in 2007.
Programs like this are crucial for boosting students' confidence and proficiency in math and is foundational for their academic success, according to UH Mānoa Professor Monique Chyba.
Trifonovitch retired from his position in December 2023 after more than 35 and half years of service.
The students have worked with professors and graduate students from the UH Mānoa Department of Mathematics on the experiment since November 2023.
The summer program is supported by a UH Mānoa project called “Ka mana o ka lā: Modeling our energy future.”
The math department hosted a distinguished lecture series and a massive math jam for students.
