Lassner discussed that UH leadership is engaging with a third party to help evaluate the structure of the 10-campus system.
“I am personally pledging today $1 million to support graduate students working in [the] areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning or data science in service to the environment or humanity here in our islands.”
Lassner also explained UH’s extensive involvement in the state’s broadband initiative and announced two recently awarded federal grants
Lassner also provided the latest update on the SCR 201 Tenure Task Force and the impact of a possible federal government shutdown on the university.
Lassner announced his plan to retire in 2024 in a message to the UH Board of Regents on September 19.
“We know that many of our students and employees have endured severe personal losses, and UH will continue to find ways to help our people and our communities heal and look forward.”
President Lassner provided a comprehensive update on the impacts of the deadly Maui wildfires and more.
Lassner also provided updates on the tenure project and the RISE innovation center and student housing project.
The task force was officially established by the legislature to “examine and assess” the faculty tenure system.
