| Description: | Salap, ein Mann aus Malingdam/Imarin, spannt KettfŠden Ÿber ein HolzgerŠt und beginnt zu weben, indem er jedes zweite Fach von Hand šffnet. Die jeweils darauffolgenden FŠcher werden durch Einschieben eines Trennstabes in die Kette automatisch vorgebildet. Auf den Arbeitsfaden werden wei§e Glasperlen aufgezogen. Dieser wird durch das gešffnete Fach geschoben und zwischen den KettfŠden geordnet. Nach Fertigstellung bindet sich Salap die Stirnbinde um.Salap, a man from Malingdam/Imarin village, demonstrates the making of a head-band in plait weaving technique. He stretches the warp over a wooden frame and starts weaving, opening every alternate shed by hand. The counter sheds are formed automatically by insertion of a separating stick. Assisted by another man and by boys, Salap strings white glass beads on the working thread, passes it through the open shed and arranges the glass beads between the different warp threads. The result is a woven band with a design of glass beads. Salap works in company with other men engaged in other things. Head-bands of this kind are worn by men as festive ornament. |
