As part of the college’s continuous quality review and prioritization process, two programs, Plant Biology and Tropical Agriculture and Business Technology have been stopped out until July 1, 2020. During this time, these programs will be revisited to examine importance, design, and viability. A third program, Auto Body Repair and Painting, has been terminated.

Demand

Three programs ranked as having an unhealthy demand:

Last year, no programs were ranked as unhealthy for demand. The Creative Media program only fully launched spring 2019 and the Electronics Technology program review shows evidence there are more positions on Kauai than these data are reflecting. And as noted in the Hawaiian Studies program review, the number of majors has remained steady since the program launched its Associate of Arts degree in 2012, and range between 20-36 students. Additionally, the system has set a priority to be the premier indigenous serving institution and the importance of this program to delivering on this system initiative, as well as its importance to the KauCC student population and college are essential. Eleven or 57% of KauCC’s programs have a healthy demand indicator which is up from the merely four programs that were ranked as having healthy demand last year.

Efficiency

Only one program, Auto Body Repair and Painting, received an unhealthy rating for efficiency this year, which is an improvement compared to the five programs rated as unhealthy for efficiency last year. The Auto Body Repair and Painting program has been terminated.

Effectiveness

Four programs or 21% were rated as healthy for effectiveness which is down from five programs that were rated as healthy for effectiveness last year. Two programs were rated as unhealthy for effectiveness:

As already noted, Auto Body Repair and Painting has been terminated and Plant Biology and Tropical Agriculture has been stopped out.
